3 Day Introductory Workshop

3 Day Introduction To Entertainment Rigging Workshop.

This workshop is designed for those with little to no rigging experience so it is suitable for those completely new to entertainment rigging.

It is normally held over 3 days and it covers the rules and legislation you need to be aware of including Working At Height regulations, LOLER and PUWER. The course provides guidance on equipment selection and inspection and then looks at understanding the loads and forces encountered when rigging for different types of purposes or performances. Our courses include a comprehensive look at the dynamic forces imparted on rigging equipment by moving acts such as circus or acrobatics.

It will show you how to correctly tie the key knots used for rigging and then look at other fixings including strops and straps, shackles, carabiners and pulleys. There will be an introduction to the use of truss and truss systems. Then at ground level you will be given some rigging tasks to complete.

Next you will be introduced to harnesses and fall arrest systems suitable for rigging and shown how to safely climb a truss or tower and how to move around on a truss system safely. Then you will be shown how to climb and descend ropes using dual rope, rope access techniques using devices including ascenders, descenders along with backup devices such as the ASAP or S-Tec Duck. We will also cover how to “rig for rescue”, rope rigging techniques that allow an incapacitated climber to be lowered to the ground without needing to perform a complex rescue.

Throughout the course rigging tasks will be set and you will be expected to demonstrate that you can safely complete the task before moving on to the next stage. You will be shown how to undertake a risk assessment and be expected to be able to identify the risks associated with each task and then understand how to eliminate or mitigate those risks. You will also be shown how to prepare a full written risk assessment for a typical rigging scenario as well as a method statement that will describe how any work will be completed safely.

The primary goal of the course is to ensure that attendees are able to identify all safety issues and then complete basic rigging tasks at height, in a safe manner.

We can provide a suitable training facilities for the course or we can bring the course to your facility. The cost will depend on the number of attendees plus the cost of the training facility.
